Ordinance Passed Banning Synthetic Drugs in Barrington

The Board of Trustees passed the ordinance banning the sale or possession of K2/Spice and Bath Salts.

Products containing the synthetic drugs known as “bath salts” and K2/Spice are now prohibited in the village of Barrington. An ordinance passed at the July 16 Board of Trustees meeting banned the sale, or possession of items containing these drugs. “Synthetic drugs are one of the more serious things out there that no one knows about,” said Trustee and McHenry County Assistant State’s Attorney Robert Windon. “It is something that we all pass on the store and we see bath salts on the wall, and everybody just assumes it’s just the bath salts that you all know about for taking a bath or for relaxation. Patch Flash: Fake Drug Use Surges, Causes Real Problems

Chicagoland news to talk about: Drunk suburban drivers don’t heed police.

  State authorities hope to combat the use of synthetic marijuana and "bath salts." Citing American Association of Poison Control Centers statistics, Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s office said abuse of synthetic drugs is surging. Last year, poison control centers received 302 calls about bath salts; in 2011, that number has skyrocketed to 5,600. And national poison control centers received about 2,900 calls for synthetic marijuana issues; in 2011 so far, they've received nearly double. The sudden spike has lawmakers, parents and police worried because of the harmful effects of the chemicals and the unpredictable behavior of those under the influence.
