More than 100 people were arrested in a complex retail theft scheme that involved operations in various counties and neighboring states, the Cook County State's Attorney announced today. Malls in Skokie, Niles and Schaumburg were among the few targeted.
A holiday sting operation led to the arrest of more than a 100 "grinches" following a month-long undercover investigation, the Cook County State's Attorney announced today. According to authorities, thieves were targeting stores at Old Orchard Mall in Skokie, Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, among others, and stealing mass amounts of designer clothing only to be sold at a reduced cost on the black market. The investigation, dubbed "Operation Whoville," involved a series of separate covert undercover sting operations at six Chicago-area malls that included North Riverside, Orland Square, Woodfield, Gurnee Mills, Aurora Outlet Malls and Old Orchard, authorities said. Police say Julie Salk stole more than $5,000 in ticket and raffle revenue from a high school play.
Former Barrington High School Fine Arts Department Chairwoman Julie Salk was arrested on theft charges Tuesday. Barrington Police charged Salk with one count of theft over $500. Police say she stole $5,022 in theater and raffle ticket revenue from a "Hello Dolly!" production in March 2012. In the 2010-2011 school year, the Illinois State Board of Education reported Salk's salary as $142,024.27. Her first court date is Nov. 14 at 1:30 p.m. at the Babcox Justice Center in Waukegan. Salk retired from District 220 in June after being placed on administrative leave. She was the subject of internal review with the district for two months prior to her retirement. Police and school officials remained mum on the subject until her arrest Nov. 13. …

Driving without a valid license: Jorge Garcia-Gonzalez, 25 of Carpentersville, was arrested on April 28 for driving without a valid license, speeding, and no insurance at Dundee Ave. and Sunset. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 10. Collette R. Shriver, 23, of the 300 block of Cedar Circle, was arrested on May 15 for driving without a valid license. She was also ticketed for improper lane usage on Hough Street. Her court date is July 7. Driving Under the Influence: Thomas A. Rhind, 51, of Mundelein, was arrested on May 4 for driving under the influence of alcohol.
