The final installment, of the multipart series, that looks back on how the 2011 spring season finished for the Broncos and Fillies.
Boys’ Track The Bronco’s 3200 meter relay team was off and running to start the season, and they didn’t stop until they reached the podium to collect their silver medal at the IHSA state meet held at Eastern Illinois University. Double state qualifier junior Eric Peterson (also ran the 1600 meter run but failed to advance to the finals) and senior Eric Schneider (ran the 4 x 400 relay with teammates senior Terrence Thomas, Tim Jaderholm and Dale Jno-Baptiste that also failed to qualify for the finals 3:20.47) took home the silver medal with seniors Karl Eiring and Pat Managan in the 4 x 800 with a record time for Barrington (7:44.87). Part one of a multipart series recapping a busy sports session for Barrington during the 2011 spring sports season.
In what is always a very busy spring schedule, here is just a quick glimpse on how some of the Broncos and Fillies sports teams did this spring. Boys’ Tennis: The Broncos, who won the Schaumburg Sectional, had two doubles teams advance to the state finals held in Arlington Heights. Sophomore Ben Adams and junior Greg Baker kicked off the three-day tournament for Barrington with a victory in their first match (6-3, 6-0 to Carbondale High School), but would lose their next match, an intense battle to Oak Park (Fenwick) 7-5, 7-5. The doubles tandem would rebound to win their next match over Chicago Latin before losing in the third round of the consolation bracket to Naperville North (6-2, 6-3). Strong performance from seniors in 4 x 800 earns them a medal at state meet.
Barrington’s coaches had a feeling that the 3,200-meter relay team needed to bring home a win at the IHSA state track meet at Eastern Illinois University. “About 10 minutes before the final’s run, (Barrington track coach) Ty Gorman used one of the available signs to write 7:44.8, so that the (relay team) could see it as they warmed up,” said Todd Kuklinski, Barrington’s head track coach. “We felt that this was the time that they needed to win, and it was as if (Gorman) saw into the future.” Seniors Eric Schneider, Karl Eiring, Pat Managan and junior Erik Peterson comprised the 4x800 relay team, and although they did not hit the number Gorman prophesied, the relay runners could not get much closer – they finished with a time of 7:44.87, …
