You won’t find genetically modified fish on Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods shelves, Reuters reports. The grocers signed an agreement with others across the country as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration nears closer to approving genetically engineered salmon. The fish would be the first genetically modified animal to be in America’s food supply, the news source reports. The nearest Trader Joe’s is located at 735 W. Route 22 in Lake Zurich, and Whole Foods newest location is at 20281 N Rand Road in Kildeer.

In the Lake Zurich/Barrington/Kildeer area, there are about a dozen grocery options.
The Lake Zurich area, particularly the Rte. 12 corridor, seems to be somewhat of a mecca for grocery stores. Between Lake Zurich and Kildeer, the area currently has five stand-alone grocers—Fresh Market, Jewel-Osco, Dominick’s Finer Foods, Aldi's, and Trader Joes. There are two more in Barrington, Jewel-Osco and Heinen's Fine Foods, bringing the total to seven. There are two more on the way—Whole Foods and Mariano’s Fresh Market—as well as talk of a third--Woodmans. That’s not even counting retailers that offer large grocery sections, like Walmart, Target and Costco. Lake Zurich also has Ania's Polish Deli which is much more than a deli, actually a specialty European market. That totals to about a dozen different places to buy groceries…

If you have it, bring it back to a Trader Joe's store for a refund.
Trader Joe’s corporate officials say they are acting “out of an abundance of caution” and ordering the recall of one type of its house brand peanut butter over salmonella concerns. “Trader Joe’s Creamy Salted Valencia Peanut Butter” should not be eaten, the Monrovia-based specialty grocery chain said. “We have no confirmed information that suggests this peanut butter is unsafe to eat,” the company stated. But the food should not be eaten “pending health-related inquiries.” The closest Trader Joe's to the Barrington area is in Lake Zurich at 735 W. Route 22.
