Congratulations to Barrington High School senior Ben Calamari, who placed fifth in his weight class at the wrestling state finals last weekend in Champaign. The wrestler defeated Aurora's Alex Fritz of Marmion Academy 3-1 to claim the title, according to the Illinois High School Association. Four other Barrington wrestlers qualified for the state finals but did not place:

Congratulations to the five Barrington High School wrestlers qualified for the state tournament this weekend, according to IHSA results. The athletes will now compete at the state wrestling tournament, which will be held Feb. 14 to 16 at Assembly Hall in Champaign.

The Barrington High School wrestling squad will compete in a very important meet at Lake Zurich on Saturday, Feb. 2. The top three individuals will advance into sectionals at Barrington next weekend, and the team champion will head to the dual-team sectional, the Daily Herald reports. Barrington will face off against Buffalo Grove, Cary-Grove, Deerfield, Highland Park, Lake Forest, Lake Zurich, Palatine and Stevenson. The Daily Herald reports Kevin Conrad in the 132-weight class and Ben Calamari in the 285-weight class are two Barrington wrestlers to watch. The state individual tournament will be held Feb. 14-16 in Champaign, while the dual-team state tournament is scheduled for Feb. 23 in Bloomington. The Feb. 2 meet starts at 9 a.m.

The Barrington Broncos Wrestling Club (BBWC) had a great weekend at the State Championships in Rockford last weekend, March 9 and 10. All six state qualifiers had record breaking performances. The team also had five individual place winners and a 12th place team finish in the novice division out of 191 teams. The BBWC placed 17th overall as a team which combined novice and senior wrestlers. Peter Golec was one match away from placing at 89 lbs. novice division, but helped contribute to team points. Barrington wrestlers prove too much for Rolling Meadows in 47-9 victory.
Barrington wrestlers went 11-3 in a dual meet against their formidable conference crossover rival the Rolling Meadow Mustangs and coasted to 47-9 victory. This is just the latest dual meet victory for the Broncos (12-0) as the team remains perfect on the season in such meets. “It’s a great thing and are pleased of it; but it doesn’t mean anything until the end of the season,” Barrington’s wrestling Coach Alex Strobl said of the team’s success. “We have things to still improve on but thing are heading in the right direction.” In the first match on the evening of Jan. 6, Ryan Wilt (189) and the Broncos started out with an early pin against Rolling Meadow’s Tom Devora.
