Easter Bunny to Visit Barrington Homes

The Barrington Park District can arrange for the Easter Bunny to visit kids at home.

The Barrington Park District can arrange for a special visit from the Easter Bunny to your home on March 27. "The Barrington Park District has been making home visits with the Easter Bunny for over 10 years," said Recreation Supervisor Kim Sweeney. "It is one of our favorite and most popular events. No need to stand in line at the mall when you can have the bunny come right to your home with an Easter basket." A Park District staff member escorts the Easter Bunny to the home with a special basket for each boy and girl, Sweeney said. Parents can snap pictures of the children with the bunny in their very own house or yard. "The bunny loves high fives and dancing," Sweeney said. These sound like fun! My wife and I are always looking for fun things with the kids, especially around Christmastime. There is also a great Christmas Light Display in the Barrington area. The show is computer controlled and synchronized to several Christmas songs, which you can listen to in your car. The highlights of the show are a 20-foot mega-tree with over 10,000 lights and leaping arches …   more ›

Halloween Fun at the Barrington Park District

Pre-register for these popular events before they fill up.

Halloween is just around the corner and the Barrington Park District is offering some not-so-scary activities the entire family can enjoy. Rickert Nelson is this year's featured artist in the Barrington Park District's Showcase of Arts and Treasures.

Kathleen Rickert Nelson, artist, historian, speaker, and pilot, started to draw at an early age, and is known for her ability to marry the past with the present to create one-of-a-kind illustrations and fine works of art. In her work, she balances simplicity with elegance to achieve the most beautiful and gracious look for each piece of work. Blending her unique artistry with emotion and history, each piece she creates tells a poignant story about the individuals in its past. Kathleen is passionate about capturing the spirit of an object she is creating, whether it be a 100 year-old illustration of a barn, a family heirloom or WWII military aircraft, preserving history and legacy to be passed on to future generations. Street Strider Ellipticals New to Barrington Park District

The ellipticals on a bike are available to ride at Citizens Park for a small fee.

If you’ve seen the new Street Striders out in Citizens Park, you may be wondering what they’re all about. The Street Strider isn’t quite a bicycle, and kind of looks like a scooter, but it’s actually the newest way of doing an elliptical workout. The Street Striders are new to the Barrington Park District, and as many would say, a very fun and exciting way to get some exercise in. Barrington Park District employee John Callarese calls them ellipticals on a bike. “It’s really just for your health,” Callarese said. “It’s absolutely easy to steer, easy to ride, but you’re getting a workout because you’re doing a pure elliptical. You’re working your arms, you’re working your legs,” he said. According to the Barrington Park District’s website, …
