McSweeney, R-Barrington Hills, won against independent candidate Dee Beaubien in the 52nd House District race.
Republican candidate David McSweeney won the 52nd House District race Tuesday night over independent candidate Dee Beabien. McSweeney, a financial consultant from Barrington Hills, had 23,563 votes — 7,792 more votes than Beaubien, also of Barrington Hills, who is the widow of Mark H. Beaubien, Jr. Mark represented the district from 1996 until his unexpected death on June 5, 2011. Creating a stronger economy and repealing a tax increase passed in the state last year is top on McSweeney’s to-do list now that he has been elected to office. “I am honored to serve the people of Illinois. I am laser-focused on policies that create jobs and improve the state of the economy,” McSweeney said. He also said he is focused on cutting spending in …

President Barack Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden were re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney and his vice-presidential running mate Rep. Paul Ryan. NBC News called the presidential election for Obama around 11:15 EST. The president sent a message on Twitter at 10:14 saying simply, "This happened because of you. Thank you." The Obama campaign won the most expensive presidential race ever, with both parties raising about $2.6 billion. The race was filled with negative campaigning on both sides, from President Obama attacking Romney’s business experience with Bain Capital to Romney lambasting Obama’s handling of the economy. The race tightened during the final months of the campaign, with gaffes and surges …

While many of northern Illinois' congressional races left little in the way of doubt, a few provided down-to-the-wire drama and competitiveness. Judy Biggert and Bill Foster were in a dead heat as Election Day approached, and Joe Walsh and Tammy Duckworth engaged in a bitter mudfest. Jesse Jackson Jr. didn't campaign at all, and Adam Kinzinger, Dan Lipinski, Danny Davis and Peter Roskam didn't feel they had to. Coverage of the various congressional races can be viewed throughout the Patch network.

An unknown fraction of about 1,500 people were sent someone else's voter information due to a clerical error at the Cook County Clerk's office. The Clerk's office says the info is incomplete and harmless.
In the course of registering people to vote, the Cook County Clerk's Office mistakenly mailed some personal information to the wrong people. A clerical error affected an unknown number among the 1,500 people who tried registering to vote online, according to Courtney Greve, spokeswoman for Cook County Clerk David Orr. She stressed the information sent in error was not complete and should not pose a risk of identity theft. The State Board of Elections offered online voter registration this year. But to complete the online registration, people had to mail in a signature. The online program was popular and successful, but about 1,500 people never mailed their completed form, Greve said. "They inputed the data online and the data was sent to …

Hoping to grab a ticket for the Obama election night party downtown? You're going to have to work for it. Only campaign volunteers willing to offer up their time toward the effort to get the president reelected will be given entry, according to the Chicago Tribune. Patch will be liveblogging and reporting all national, state and local election results. Check out all Barrington Patch's political coverage here. Are you headed to …

Deborah Barry of Deer Park is the Democratic challenger to District 19 incumbent Craig Taylor. Barry is the owner of an ad agency. She has served on the Deer Park Zoning Board of Appeals and Tourism and Economic Development. She also served on the Highland Park Design Review Commission. What are your top 3 priorities if elected to the Lake County Board? What would you do to help unemployed people throughout the county? Where do you stand on Route 53? If in favor, what can be done to help facilitate the extension into Lake County? If against, what can be done to help relieve traffic congestion? I am absolutely opposed to extending Route 53 as a tolled, 45 MPH road. We need to invest in local and regional transportation, including hop-on, …
