Long Grove Chocolate Fest Runs May 3-5

Annual outdoor festival begins Friday morning.

Long Grove will host its annual celebration of all things chocolate this weekend, with its three-day Chocolate Fest.  Chocolate Fest runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 3-5 in the village’s downtown, on Robert Parker Coffin Road, just west of Route 83.  The festival will include live entertainment, including a show by the Kildeer School choir, as well as children’s rides and the opportunity to snack on chocolate treats throughout the streets.  A number of Long Grove merchants will also tap into the chocolate theme with a variety of special offers. They will include a chocolate salad samples at The Olive Tap, Hershey scented candles at Long Grove Soap & Candle Co. and assorted chocolate food and drinks at The Village Tavern, where menu items …

Head-On Crash near Long Grove Sends 3 to Hospital

The victims suffered non-life threatening injuries, the Buffalo Grove Countryside reports.

  Officials had to remove three people from their vehicles after a head-on crash near Long Grove yesterday morning, the Buffalo Grove Countryside reports.   The crash happened at the interesection of OldMcHenry Road and Hillcrest Drive. The victims were taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington with non-life threatening injuries, the newspaper reports.

Robert Parker Coffin Recalls Fighting for Open Space

Living local legend Robert Parker Coffin, 95, returned to Long Grove this week to reminisce about the history of the village, fighting for open space and witnessing the growth of surrounding suburbs.

Robert Parker Coffin served as village president of Long Grove for 20 years, plus two years as a trustee, starting in 1946. Then, he spent another 20 years on the village's Plan Commision. Today, he and his wife of 68 years, Betty, live in Lake Forest. They are filled with living history. Coffin, an architect and engineer, helped develop Long Grove's Master Plan. He designed the original covered bridge in Long Grove, and has a main thoroughfare that runs through town named for him. Locals still ask about him. "People always ask about the legend behind Robert Parker Coffin Road in Long Grove," said Mara Sabath, co-owner of Peppermint Stick at 410 Robert Parker Coffin Road, Long Grove.
