G. Whiz Attracts Full House for First Day of Closing Sale

Customers of Barrington gift store waited in line for sales on Nora Fleming, Vera Bradley, Brighton handbags and more.

Barrington's G. Whiz was packed for its first day of sales since the store announced it is closing after two decades in business.  The store will be open to the public on Feb. 8 and sales will continue until the March 31 closing.

Barrington’s G. Whiz to Close Shop

Locally owned store to hold retirement/closing sale for loyal customers, Feb. 7; public sale Feb. 8.

  A popular Barrington gift store, G. Whiz, will close its doors after two decades. The last day the store will be open is March 31. “We’ve been here a long time in this community and I’m excited about the next step,” said Jan Cunningham who owns the store with her husband, Bob.  The next step for the Cunninghams is semi-retirement. The Cunnighams own Pandora stores in Deer Park and in Tucson, AZ. They plan to split their time between Arizona and Barrington, which allows them to spend time with both of their sons. Their oldest son, Matthew, is a financial consultant in Chicago. Their youngest son, Bryan, teaches on a Navaho reservation in Arizona and is working on his master’s degree. New Women's Boutique to Open in The Foundry

Dish, owned by Megan Disharoon, will open in mid-October.

A new upscale boutique with a focus on personal shopping is coming to The Foundry shopping center on the corner of Hart Road and Northwest Highway.   “Dish” will be opening its doors in the former location of Satin Filly in the coming weeks. Owner Megan Disharoon of Wauconda says she hopes to offer Barrington area shoppers something not easily found in this area. “The concept is that my mom could take me shopping and we could both find a great outfit and a pair of shoes and jewelry to match,” she said. “It’s style for all ages.” Disharoon, a mother of three, decided to act on her dream of owning a boutique by taking the plunge and creating “Dish.” “It took a while to nail down the concept, but we finally just did it,” she said.
