ReplyThere have been a number of occasions while driving past some poor student walking in inclement weather when I would have loved being able to offer them a ride. Unfortunately, if they were trained right, they would have to turn down the ride and report me to the police. It's a sad world for someone who went to Grade School in the fifties.

On the article Poll: Do You Support Illinois' Pension Fix?

ReplyThe only way to accomplish any reform would be to amend the State Constitution to remove the clause protecting the pensions. Any other attempt will spend years in the Courts and cost more money we don't have. The only other possibility, which may happen anyway, would be for the State of Illinois to declare bankruptcy.

ReplyWhat I find interesting is that the incident in question was not High School, it was a Grade School dance (8th) I believe there is a difference in what a Senior in High School could appropriately wear compared to an eighth grader.

Reply"When Schneider learned people from Organizing for Action came, he took a brief leave from more than 180 people who were there for the open house to talk to the organizers in the building lobby."
At least he knows where his support comes from. Leaves 180 folks who wanted to communicate with him to talk to 35 folks in his choir.

On the article Schakowsky, Schneider Vote Differently on Funding

From your link: Payroll Tax (Note 3) includes BOTH the employee and EMPLOYER portion of Social Security and Medicare Tax. I believe that means the employee is paying half of the amount shown. Additionally, you have to remember that those funds go into a "lockbox" fund and the average individual will get back significantly more that they paid in. When the hidden taxes in the ACA, that Speaker Pelosi said they had to pass so we could find them, kick in. Then the Middle Class will pay through the nose.

ReplyThe top 1% of federal taxpayers pay 37% of federal taxes collected. The next 4% pay 21% and the next 5% pay 12% for a total of 70% of federal taxes collected.
That, however, is not seen as enough for Schakowsky and Schneider. Those taxpayers are not paying their "fair share" according to them. -
On the article Schakowsky, Schneider Urge Sequester Action

What I find interesting is that the "cuts" are in the budget increases over the next decade. Even with the sequester, spending will increase. I haven't been able to verify it yet so take this with a grain of salt. Supposedly, total of the cuts in each program the various Administration folks suggest will be made are about two to three or more times the amount of the sequestration amount.

ReplyWASHINGTON (AP) — OBAMA: “I urge this Congress to pursue a bipartisan, market-based solution to climate change, like the one John McCain and Joe Lieberman worked on together a few years ago. But if Congress won’t act soon to protect future generations, I will. I will direct my Cabinet to come up with executive actions we can take, now and in the future, to reduce pollution, prepare our communities for the consequences of climate change and speed the transition to more sustainable sources of energy.”
THE FACTS: Obama failed to get a global warming bill through Congress when both Houses were controlled by Democrats in 2010. With Republicans in control of the House, the chances of a bill to limit the gases blamed for global warming and to create a market for businesses to trade pollution credits are close to zero. The Obama administration has already acted to control greenhouse gases through existing law. It has boosted fuel-efficiency standards and proposed rules to control heat-trapping emissions from new power plants. And while there are still other ways to address climate change without Congress, it’s questionable regulation alone can achieve the reductions needed to start curbing global warming.

Close, Ed. The Declaration of Independence notes that we have God given rights. If you don't believe in God then consider rights we have based on our humanity. The founders of our Country wrote our Constitution to protect those rights, not to grant them. Roger, the abolishment of slavery and the other civil rights you address were not granted by laws but were restored. Anyone who believes our rights come from the government, including Rep Feigenholtz, must agree that governments can take them away. I will not accept that.
