A Dream Internship: Barrington Native Rubs Elbows with Country Music Stars

Katherine Zimmer, from Barrington, had an internship with SiriusXM Channel 59 "The Highway," in Nashville, in which she interviewed famous musicians, wrote stories and managed social media.

Barrington native Katherine Zimmer, a senior at William Woods University, in Fulton. Mo., completed an internship in the music business where she rubbed elbows with the likes of Carrie Underwood and Lady Antebellum, among other celebs.

Zimmer worked for SiriusXM Channel 59 The Highway in Nashville, Tenn., as a music programming intern. She managed social media, assisted in live show production, and attended press events where she interviewed country artists.

Among the celebrities she met were Luke Bryan, Lady Antebellum, Blake Shleton, Little Big Town, Darius Rucker, Hunter Hayes, Carrie Underwood, Jason Aldean, Lee Brice, Sheryl Crow, Florida Georgia Line, Justin Moore, Kip Moore, Randy Houser and Scotty McCreery.

A communications major with concentrations in broadcasting and public relations, Zimmer also did social media, audio editing, and daily news writing at the CMA Music Festival, and was a talent escort for the 47th CMA Awards in November.

"My mentor was amazing and involved me in every aspect of her day," said Zimmer. "I not only got to experience how a large market radio station runs, I got to see all of the inner workings of the whole country music industry."

After graduation this month, Zimmer plans to move to Nashville to pursue a career within the country music industry, either in public relations on the record label side or possibly in radio/TV production.
