Lawrence Philip Hartlaub, 100, Formerly of Barrington

WWII veteran Lawrence Hartlaub was a founding member of the Barrington Knights of Columbus.

The following obituary was submitted by Mr. Hartlaub's family:

Lawrence Philip Hartlaub, 100, of LaGrange Park, formerly of Scottsdale, Ariz. and Barrington, Ill., passed away into the loving arms of our Lord on Dec. 29, 2013.

Cherished son of the late Loretta and the late Sylvester Hartlaub. Beloved husband of the late Helen; loving father of Larry Jr. (Linda)of Denver, Mary Monzures (Don) Koeppen of Scottsdale, and Anne (Greg) Smith of Western Springs. Cherished grandfather of Megan and Christine Hartlaub, Tim Monzures, and Greg (Alia), Lauren and Carrie Smith. Great-grandfather to Gwen Smith.  Dear older brother to the late Agnes (late Ted) Swaback, the late Ruth (late Charles) Hall, Norma Louise (late Erwin) Prasse, the late Donald (late Shirley), the late Eugene (Ann), the late Anne (late Richard) Ceranek, George (Joan), Jacqueline (Donald) Carducci, and Philip (Jeanne). Brother-in-law to Rosemary Hartlaub and the late Joel Hartlaub. Fond uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was a friend and an inspiration to all who met him.

He was an active Boy Scout for over 20 years. He was a U.S. Navy World War II veteran and he received a law degree from John Marshall Law School. He was a fourth-degree in the Knights of Columbus. He was a founding member of the Barrington Knights of Columbus and a founding member of the St. Maria Goretti Knights of Columbus in Scottsdale. He worked at Jewel Tea Company from 1942-1961. He worked at Salerno-Megowen Biscuit Company from 1961 until he retired in 1980 where he was the Administrative Vice-President and Treasurer.

Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 4 in the chapel at the Congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph, 1515 W Ogden Ave, La Grange Park. This chapel is attached to Bethlehem Woods, where Lawrence was living for the last few years.

Visitation will be held in the chapel prior to the noon funeral mass from 10:15 to noon. 

Lawrence asked that any donations be made to the Bellarmine Jesuit Retreat House, 420 West County Line Road, Barrington, IL 60010, to St. Thomas Hospice, 119 E Ogden Ave., Hinsdale, IL 60521 or to a charity of your choice.
