Barrington Police Arrest Couple Accused of Home Burglary Spree

Jacquelyn S. Buchholz and Jason K. Werner were arrested after a home burglary on Sept. 20.

UPDATE: Oct. 3, 3:09 p.m.:

Police say burglars that attempted to rob a Barrington home last month are accused in a string of burglaries across the McHenry and Boone County areas.

Jacquelyn S. Buchholz, 24, of Johnsburg, Ill. and Jason K. Werner, 26, of Spring Grove, Ill. were arrested by Barrington Police on Sept. 21. Following their arrest, the pair confessed to committing multiple burglaries to a team of McHenry County and Boone County investigators. Authorities say Buchholz and Werner would read obituaries, and attempt to burglarize homes of family members attending the wake.

Barrington Police have arrested two suspects in connection with a home burglary that occurred Sept. 20.

Jacquelyn S. Buchholz, 24, of Johnsburg, Ill., and Jason K. Werner, 26, of Spring Grove, Ill., are facing residential burglary charges for the crime.

Police Chief Jerry Libit said someone rang the doorbell of a home on 800 block of Meadow Lane on Sept. 20. No one answered the door, but those inside the home saw a strange car in the driveway.

“The next thing they knew they heard noises in the house, investigated and confronted a young woman in the house,” Libit said.

Libit said one of the people in the home chased Buchholz until she fled out a window. Later that evening, the suspect returned to the home through that same window. After another confrontation, Buchholz fled the scene again and police were called.

“It was a random crime. I don’t think anything was taken. It was interrupted quickly,” Libit said.

Werner did not enter the home, but was arrested as an accomplice who drove the car used to commit the crime, Libit said.

Both are facing a Class 1 Felony charge which carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and a fine up to $25,000.
