Village Receives Grant to Restore Historic Property

The $3,000 grant will be used to ultimately restore and reuse the John Robertson House.

A well known historic building in Barrington is getting a facelift, thanks to a grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation.

The $3,000 grant awarded to the village will be used to create a exisiting conditions and feasibility study in order to restore and reuse the John Robertson House, 145 W. Main St. The village bought the property in 2007 intending to restore it and use the building as a community cultural center on one level, and offices on the second and third floors. In order to make this plan a reality, the feasibility study will be needed to ensure the building is up to date with compliance codes while maintaining its historic character.

“Without organizations like the village of Barrington, communities and towns all across America would have a diminished sense of place,” president of the National Trust for Historic Preservation Stephanie Meeks said. “The National Trust for Historic Preservation is honored to provide a grant to the village of Barrington, which will use the funds to help preserve an important piece of our shared heritage.”
